Crossovers face off in 0-60-0 mph test
When an automaker puts out a video comparing its car to a rival vehicle, you have to approach it with some healthy skepticism. Despite the source, this video of the 2019 Jaguar I-Pace racing against the Tesla Model X has piqued our interest and makes us want to try this for ourselves.
During the first part of the video from Jaguar, the I-Pace and the base Tesla Model X 75D face off in a 0-60-0 mph test that involves accelerating to 60 mph from a standing start and then quickly bringing the car to a halt. You can probably guess the outcome. Next, Jaguar brings out a more powerful Model X 100D to perform the same test. Again, the result isn’t a surprise given the video was sanctioned by Jaguar.
Jaguar revealed the I-Pace crossover earlier this week, claiming it can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. That’s 0.5 seconds slower than the time Jaguar estimated when it brought out the I-Pace prototype. But it’s quicker than Tesla’s own estimates for the Model X 75D (4.9 seconds) and the 100D (4.7 seconds).
It’s probably best Jaguar didn’t bring out the range-topping Model X P100D Ludicrous+ that has a total output of 680 hp. We’ve tested this model hitting 60 mph in just 2.3 seconds.
Check out the video below to see the new I-Pace face off with the Model X, but take the results with a grain of salt.
