McLaren 765LT Has Long Tail, Even Longer Price Tag

Reviews

The 2020 McLaren 765LT is quicker, lighter, and even sexier than the 720S on which it’s based. Oh, and as you’d expect, it’s also more expensive, as we now know from official pricing released by McLaren. The newest “Longtail” (that’s the LT in the name) carries a price tag of $358,000.

Of course, the 720S isn’t cheap, either. You’ll pay around $300,000 for a 720S at the minimum, and even more for a Spider. The 765LT is expected to receive a Spider version around fall 2021, so expect prices to balloon even further. As for the LT coupe, McLaren has opened the order books in North America, so now’s your chance to snag a copy. Only 765 cars will be made for the world, and deliveries of the 765LT will start in September.

With the high price comes tasty standard features. These include ultra-lightweight forged alloy wheels with a Platinum finish, a quad-pipe titanium sport exhaust, and lots of carbon fiber on the exterior. Inside the cabin, you’ll find more carbon fiber, Alcantara trim, McLaren branded floor mats, and a 12-speaker audio system. Of course, you can always personalize the supercar with a range of MSO products available at an additional cost. The automaker says the 765LT includes approximately $50,000 of comparable cost options you’d find on the 720S coupe.

Beneath its tapering backlight, the McLaren 765LT packs a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 engine. It delivers 755 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, increases of 6.3 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively, over the 720S engine’s totals. The revised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission provides 15 percent quicker shift times, too. In addition to its potent powertrain, the 765LT boasts brakes lifted from the Senna hypercar. You’ll need those—the hardcore supercar is expected to sprint from zero to 60 mph in under 2.8 seconds.
