Audi Teases Six Upcoming RS Models, But Which Are U.S.-Bound?

Reviews

Audi Sport has released a shadowy teaser of six upcoming RS performance models, which could possibly debut at the 2019 Frankfurt auto show. Based on what we’re seeing in this shot, there’s a wide variety of models coming.

Recently, we found out during the media launch of the 2019 Audi Q3 that we won’t get the coupe-like Sportback variant or the potent RS Q3, which are the third and fourth vehicle from the left. That’s two down, but what about the rest? The rightmost vehicle is the RS Q8, which is the most likely to come to North America thanks to our insatiable SUV cravings. One other very likely candidate is the second vehicle from the left, which is clearly the RS 7. We’ve had that model since its inception, and the new one is likely to return packing the same 563-hp 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with a 48-volt mild hybrid system as the recently revealed 2020 S8.

What about the last two vehicles? Unfortunately, they’re likely never coming here because those are two wagons, and Americans are well-known for their distaste of low-slung, long-roofed vehicles with a hatch. The first vehicle from the left is the coveted RS 6 Avant while the second to the last from the left appears to be another forbidden fruit: the next RS 3 hatchback. Like the S8, the RS 6 will likely sport a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 while the RS 3 should get a 400-hp 2.5-liter turbo-five.

For now, the RS 7 and RS Q8 are likely the only RS-badged Audi vehicles we’ll get in the U.S., but that could change. With the next generation Audi A3 arriving soon, a third RS model could come to the U.S. in the form of the RS 3 sedan.
