Potentially called the ZR2 Bison
Last year, Chevrolet brought two incredibly cool Colorado concepts to the annual SEMA Show. One borrowed parts from Chad Hall’s race truck to turn the ZR2 into an even-more-capable desert off-roader. The other had been transformed into an overland adventure truck by American Expedition Vehicles. We haven’t heard anything about the ZR2 Development Truck since then, but according to the latest report, the AEV-modified overlander is headed for production.
The first clue came earlier this month when Off-Road.com discovered General Motors had trademarked the name “ZR2 Bison.” The filing even included an image of a logo showing “the wording ZR2 BISON in a fanciful font.” Coincidentally, AEV’s logo includes an image of a bison.
About a week later, Off-Road.com spoke with someone who attended GM’s recent dealer conference in Las Vegas. According to the source, Chevrolet showed dealers the production version of the Colorado ZR2 AEV concept and promised it would go on sale later this year. The truck was reportedly missing the elevated intake snorkel, expedition bed rack, and the access panel on the rear fender. Otherwise, it’s said to look almost exactly like the concept.
Pricing wasn’t discussed, but the dealer told Off-Road.com that they thought the ZR2 Bison would probably start around $45,000. They also expect AEV to offer optional upgrades that could push the price to about $50,000.
