Save even more weight with a set of $13,000 wheels
At this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Porsche showed off the most powerful naturally aspirated 911 ever, the new GT3 RS. With a 4.0-liter flat-six making 514 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque, the GT3 RS is estimated by Porsche to hit 60 mph in 3 seconds flat, and thanks to a new aero kit, generate twice as much downforce as the regular 911 GT3. Considering how impressively quick that car is, we expect the new RS to be an absolute track monster. But if the “normal” 911 GT3 RS isn’t enough of a corner carver for you, Porsche now offers a way to make it even lighter.
Called the Weissach Package, this $18,000 option uses carbon fiber for the roof, anti-roll bars, coupling rods, paddle shifters, and steering wheel trim. To save a little more weight, components already made from carbon fiber such as the hood, wing, and side mirrors, are left unpainted, and the carpeting is also thinner. Porsche also embroiders the headrests and adds a badge to the dashboard.
Even with that badge’s extra weight, the Weissach Package makes the 911 GT3 RS about 14 pounds lighter. Customers who want to save even more weight can buy a set of magnesium wheels for an additional $13,000. They’re 25 pounds lighter than the regular wheels, an improvement that Porsche says reduces unsprung weight and rotational inertia.
Yes, it’s a little ridiculous to spend $31,000 to lose 39 pounds. But if you’re already spending $188,550 to buy a 911 GT3 RS, what’s another few thousand dollars?
