Looks like it won’t simply be a JL Wrangler with a bed
About two years ago, Jeep officially confirmed a rumor we’d been hearing for a while. A Wrangler-based pickup truck was coming. More recently, we heard it would probably be called the Jeep Scrambler, but beyond that, Jeep has done a good job of keeping a lid on leaks. Of course, since we know it’s supposed to be Wrangler based, and Jeep recently revealed the new Wrangler, we can probably figure a few things out. But based off the latest spy shots, it looks like the Scrambler will be more than just a JL Wrangler with a pickup bed.
Specifically, it looks like Jeep swapped out the Wrangler’s suspension for one that’s heavily inspired by the Ram 1500. Even if it’s a departure from what we saw on the Wrangler pickup truck concept, this change is probably a good thing for Jeep fans who were hoping to see the Scrambler out-tow the Wrangler.
Compared side-by-side, the similarities between the Ram 1500’s suspension and the one our spy photographer caught refueling at a gas station are impossible to miss. The control arms, panhard rod, rear stabilizer bar, and anti-roll bar look almost the same.
As you can see from the shots of the full truck, Jeep has kept the look of the Scrambler pretty close to the Wrangler-with-a-bed look we were expecting. But based on these spy shots, it’s clear that a lot more engineering has gone into its development than we might have expected. It also makes us that much more anxious to get our hands on the production version.
Hopefully, that happens sooner rather than later.
