Stepping down after four years as the brand’s global CMO
Back in early 2014, Cadillac’s senior executive Bob Ferguson convinced Uwe Ellinghaus to leave luxury design brand Montblanc International and to join Cadillac as its chief marketing officer. Approximately four years later, Ellinghaus has decided to step down from his role at Cadillac.
Automotive News reports that Ellinghaus has officially resigned, effective December 31. Johan de Nysschen, president of Cadillac, announced Ellinghaus’ decision in an internal memo sent out Friday and later obtained by Automotive News. Cadillac spokesperson Andrew Lipman then confirmed the news, telling the news outlet that Ellinghaus decided to leave for “personal reasons.” According to de Nysschen’s memo, a replacement has yet to be named.
While Ellinghaus left Montblanc for Cadillac, he had previously held several positions at BMW, including a two-year stint as the German automaker’s CMO. At Cadillac, he worked to make the brand relevant again, as well as improve Cadillac’s image among luxury buyers. Ellinghaus was part of de Nysschen’s decision to move the brand’s headquarters to Manhattan, where he also launched the somewhat controversial Cadillac House.
“I’d like to personally thank Uwe for his partnership as a member of the leadership team and wish him the best as he pursues his future endeavors,” said de Nysschen in Friday’s memo.
