Our spy photographers have caught the upcoming BMW X2 completely undisguised on a transport truck with a host of other BMW models with it. Not much has changed on its journey from concept to production form, including the C-pillar-mounted BMW roundel that hearkens back to classic models like the E9 3.0 CS.

Unlike the show car unveiled at the 2o16 Paris auto show, the production-spec BMW X2 trades the large front lower air intakes for foglight housings. It also features a body-colored rear skid plate, which is clearly there for looks and not functionality, in place of the concept’s silver rear diffuser that wraps around the exhaust tips. The taillights also appear to have been reshaped and appear wider than the ones found in the X2 Concept.

The biggest difference that allows the X2 to stand apart from the other coupe-like crossovers in BMW’s lineup is that it has a more traditional roofline instead of one that quickly descends on the X4 and X6. The X2 will feature a normal liftgate, which should help rearward visibility.

Expect the BMW X2 to essentially be a less practical version of the X1, which means it should ride on BMW’s UKL platform that’s shared with the Mini lineup and the global-market 2 Series Active Tourer and Gran Tourer minivans. Under the hood, the X2 should features the same 228-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four and eight-speed automatic transmission as the X1 in standard guise. An M Performance variant could also be in the cards since the X2 will be the sportier of the two small, front-drive-based BMW crossovers.
