High school students envision the cars of the future
FCA recently announced the winners of its 2017 Drive for Design Contest (first place sketch is pictured above). This year’s contest asked high school students from 10th to 12th grade to design a Dodge vehicle that would be produced 30 years from now. Three students from Georgia, Delaware, and Michigan got top honors this year.
The contest includes prizes such as a two-week course on automotive design at Lawrence Technological University and passes to the EyesOn Design exhibition in Michigan. Other prizes include a three-day/two-night stay in Michigan and an Apple MacBook Pro.
“The Drive for Design contest helps connect our design team to the extraordinary artistic talent of students across the country and allows us to help guide them for a potential career in automotive design,” said Mark Trostle, head of Performance, Passenger Car and Utility Vehicle Design for FCA North America. “All of the submissions were creative and visionary as they truly thought about what vehicles could look like in the next 30 years.”
FCA launched the Drive for Design contest back in 2013 as a way to promote careers in automotive design among aspiring young artists. Originally starting as a local contest in the Detroit area, Drive for Design eventually grew into a national event giving winners an opportunity to develop their skills.
