But he still hopes it can be made.
Building the Opel GT is a long shot, but don’t rule it out.
“This car is a dream,” said Opel CEO Karl-Thomas Neumann after the concept was shown here at the Geneva auto show. “All I can say is I hope the dream comes true.”
“It is perfectly possible to build it,” Neumann said in an interview. But General Motors needs a viable business case, and he admits that will not be easy for the sexy two-seater shown with doors that extend into the front wheel arch.
If built, the front-mid-engine Mazda MX-5 Miata-fighter “must be rear-wheel drive,” Neumann said.
Some of the show car bits would have to be addressed for production: the window tint and lack of side mirrors are not road-legal and are easily fixed.
Opel also says the one-piece door with the offset hinge could be done.
